In this episode, I introduce a new Irish vegan ethic to acknowledge the entangled destinies of Ireland’s humans and other animals, advocating healthy foods, healthy habitats, and a path toward justice and a robust future for all those disenfranchised. To illustrate this goal, the ramifications of modern global ties and Britain’s exit from the European Union are examined as they effect Irish foodways and Nonhuman Animal welfare. This episode also outlines the ongoing tension between the indigenous Gaelic vegetarianism of resistance and the colonial vegetarianism of oppression.
